At Ten Years Old, Mutahi’s World Collapsed

Domestic violence robbed Mutahi* of one of the most important things a 10-year-old boy needs: a mother and family.

Violent and filled with rage, Mutahi’s father lashed out at his family and the worst of it fell upon his mother.  She was dead and Mutahi was abandoned.

That is the end of the story for many vulnerable children in Kenya, but it wasn’t the end of Mutahi’s story.

Mutahi was rescued by community leaders and brought to the Brydges Centre because they knew he would receive the love and healing he needed.

Despite the trauma he had endured, Mutahi joined the Brydges Centre family, received counseling and care, and enrolled in the third grade.  Within weeks, a surprising transformation began to take place…

Mutahi’s World Expanded!

As Mutahi’s heart expanded through the love and support he found in the Brydges Centre family, so did his ambition and sense of value and purpose.

He had a natural eagerness to learn that was demonstrated when he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams to attend high school.

His excellent test scores propelled him forward and he was admitted into Musingu Boy’s High School, one of the best in the region.  This is where his passion for engineering and technology took off.

Mutahi didn’t stop there. He completed high school with grades that granted him admission to Moi University to pursue HIS dream: to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Technology Education and launch a career in teaching.
