This is nine-year-old Amani* in her Sunday best!
When you visit the Brydges Centre on Sunday, you see girls and boys “dressed to the nines” for worship. Amani feels safe, loved, valuable, and quite pretty in the dress she received when she became a member the Brydges Centre family.
This picture is particularly beautiful because Amani was trafficked and almost killed last year by her biological family.
Amani came through the Brydges Centre gate and into the family after being hospitalized for two weeks from a deep cut in her head and other traumatic injuries.
While her father and stepmother used, sold, and beat her, the Brydges Centre has loved, valued, and embraced her as a girl with infinite worth and potential.
Through regular counseling sessions at a local clinic and through the daily encouragement of her potential, Amani now has the opportunity to heal and to DREAM BIG.
Amani’s Dreams: Made Possible By YOU And The Brydges Centre Staff
Rosemary Wafula and her teachers, staff, and caregivers encourage each child to embrace their education and to dream big about what they want to be when they grow up.
In fact, teachers and staff at the Centre greet children in these ways:
- Good morning, Engineer Benjamin, how are you today?
- Hello Teacher Bethany, how are your studies going?
- Greetings Businessman Okeyo, how are the markets today?
For Amani, the greeting is now,
“Good morning Pilot Amani, how are the skies looking today?”
One year ago, Amani was almost killed by her own family. Now she’s dreaming about a career in aviation and we believe it is possible because of Edwin’s amazing story you can watch on our website under the “Videos” section HERE.
